Join us on a journey to Masterton, where we experience the thrills and excitement of Wings Over Wairarapa 2019, featuring some of the world’s rarest vintage aircraft from the last century including original WWI aircraft alongside some of the classics from WWII.

Friday 22 February – Monday 25 February 2019 (4 Days)

DAY 1  Friday 22 February 2019 HOME CITIES TO MASTERTON (D)
We commence our trip today travelling south passing through the village of Tirau and the Wairakei Geothermal Steam Bores. We will have a morning tea stop in Taupo before continuing along State Highway One through the Desert Road to Waiouru for our lunch stop (own cost). After lunch, we continue driving down through the central North Island and down through the Manawatu townships of Woodville, Mangatainoka (home of the Tui Brewery), Paihiatua and Eketahuna before arriving at our destination of Masterton, where we stay for the next three nights. We are delighted to have secured fantastic accommodation for the Wings over Wairarapa air show, staying a quick five minute drive from the aerodrome. Tonight we will enjoy dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2  Saturday 23 February 2019 WINGS OVER WAIRARAPA AIR SHOW (BD)
After a relaxed breakfast this morning we board our coach and travel the short distance to Hood Aerodrome where the biennial event Wings over Wairarapa is held. The 2019 show is in celebration of their 20th anniversary, and features some of the world’s rarest vintage aircraft from the last century including original WWI aircraft alongside some classics from WWII. While these historic aircraft are always crowd favourites there will also be incredible displays of contemporary aircraft along with a glimpse of the future of aviation. In addition to the spectacular flying programme there are a fantastic ground displays and activities. At the conclusion of the air show, we will be transferred back to our accommodation for the evening, where dinner is included at the hotel.

DAY 3  Sunday 24 February 2019 WINGS OVER WAIRARAPA AIR SHOW (BD)
After a relaxed breakfast, we travel out to Hood Aerodrome for the final day of Wings over Wairarapa.  Today is your chance to check out any of the displays you may have missed yesterday, and to see their outstanding finale of the air show. Tonight we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner at the hotel.

DAY 4  Monday 25 February 2019 MASTERTON TO HOME CITIES (B)
Today we retrace our journey back north, travelling via the Hawke’s Bay for a change of scenery. This road passes through a number of small farming towns including Takapau, Waipukerau and Waipawa into the rich farming country of the southern Hawkes Bay. We will stop in Napier for a lunch break (own cost) and a browse around the shops before continuing our journey back to our home destinations.
