Highways & Byways – Huntly Section

Today we are going for a drive along one of the newest pieces of roading in the Waikato. Travelling north, we will travel along the newly opened Huntly section of the Waikato Expressway. The 15km four-lane highway takes State Highway 1 east of Huntly, across lowlands and over the Taupiri Range. After passing through this section, we will continue on the Waikato Expressway, riding on the also recently completed Longswamp section. Our lunch stop today will be at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, before retracing our steps back to Hamilton.

Karangahake Gorge to Dickey Flat

Today we travel to Karangahake for a walk through historic mining country through to  Dickey Flat. Bring your torch today for a 200m tunnel on this track. From the Karangahake Reserve car park, cross the suspension bridge over the Ohinemuri River then head uphill. Follow the Crown Tramway Track alongside the true left bank of the Waitawheta River. Cross the suspension bridge and continue upstream on the Crown Track past the Crown Stope and a picturesque swimming hole (40 minutes from the start) and then through the tunnel. A bridge crosses the Waitawheta River just before you reach Dickey Flat. We then return via the same track. Bring a picnic lunch today for you to enjoy at Dickey Flat. Also remember to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. A moderate level of fitness is required for today’s trip. This walk is approximately 3km each way.

Raglan EELS

Today we travel out west to Raglan where we visit a one-of-a-kind experimental aquaculture farm that is located adjacent to Raglan’s Waitetuna River and Harbour estuary. The tour features the unique aquaculture system where whitebait, mullet and eels are being raised “off the grid” utilising sustainable practices. On the tour, there will be a fibre demonstration which features locally raised Alpacas and the conversion of the wool into everyday clothing items and an opportunity to view Beef and Lamb production. After the tour, we travel into Raglan for you to purchase your lunch before travelling back to Hamilton.

Waitakaruru Sculpture Park

The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum is a former quarry that has been transformed into a 17.5 hectare  arboretum with more than 20,000 trees from around the world. The rehabilitation started in 1991.  Along the 2 km long nature trail we will discover more than 100 sculptures and installations within one of New Zealand’s largest outdoor galleries.  All of their sculptures are NZ made, some tell thought-provoking NZ stories. We will have an included picnic lunch in the sculpture park.

Mystery Trip

What shall we do today? Well I know and I guess if you want to find out you’ll have to come out today and see what we have planned. As usual we will be doing something interesting, we’ll have a tasty lunch and of course the company will be great!

Hinehopu/Hongi’s Track—Rotorua

We commence our travels today with a drive to Rotorua. Travelling out to Lake Rotoiti, we commence our walk (approx. 2.2km each way). The track is a pleasant walk through native forest with important historic and cultural value. There is a beautiful beach at Korokitewao Bay (Lake Rotoiti) for swimming and picnicking (a perfect place for you to eat your lunch). The track runs from Korokitewao Bay (Lake Rotoiti) to Te Pōhue Bay (Lake Rotoehu), through a forest of rimu, tawa, pukatea and rewarewa.  We return back to Lake Rotoiti via the same track. Please bring a picnic lunch with you today, along with your walking shoes and water. A moderate level of fitness is required.

Scenic Drive

Today we will board the coach and just drive and enjoy the scenery as we go. There is nothing better than just hopping in the coach and going for a drive on an autumn day. We are not restricted to time so it is a full day of leisure exploring. We will stop somewhere along the way for you to purchase your lunch.

Antique & Collectable Lovers Day Out

This one is for the antique lovers out there! Today we are taking in the countryside and stopping in at antique and vintage shops along the way. Our first stop of the day will be Te Aroha, where we will also have a roadside cuppa. Continuing on, we then travel to Paeroa,  famous for its range of antiques and collectables. There will be plenty of time for you here to browse the various antique and vintage shops of the town and don’t worry, there will be room to store all your purchases on the coach! You’ll also be able to purchase your lunch in Paeroa. Our last stop of the day will be Waihi to check out a couple of the shops there, before commencing our trip home to Hamilton.

Waiheke Island

An early start today to get to the ferry on time, but once onboard the coach, you can sit back and relax while we worry about the traffic! Once on the island, we’ll safari around with our driver showing us the best spots on the island, followed by some free time at Oneroa Village – you may like to walk along the local beach or just browse the shops prior to purchasing your lunch. Waiheke has been voted one of the top islands in the world, so do not miss out on this unique experience. Please advise us at time of booking if you have an Auckland Transport Gold Hop Card, as you will get a discounted ferry cost.
