This East Coast Tour explores Napier, Hawkes Bay, and the Wairarapa region – culminating in Wellington on Anzac Day.
The Wairarapa is a farming area east of the rugged Tararua Ranges where sheep graze and in the south fine wines are produced. The coast is wild, noted for fishing, surfing, and seals. Orchards and market gardens sell from roadside stalls while the commercial centre of Masterton hosts the annual Golden Shears International Shearing Competition. Many fine private mansions and gardens are open to the public as well as numerous arts and crafts outlets.
Day 1 Tuesday, 20 April 2021
HOME CITIES TO NAPIER (D)
Welcome aboard! Today we begin our tour with collections in Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, and Taupo (only as required) en-route. With scenic stops along the way including Huka Falls and time out in Taupo later this afternoon we arrive in Napier. Napier was devastated by an earthquake and ensuing fires in 1931 and was rebuilt during the period when Art Deco Architecture was fashionable. Within two years, the city was rebuilt, predominantly in Art Deco style, with Maori motifs and design elements incorporated. On arrival we visit the Art Deco Centre run by the Art Deco Trust to hear more about Napier’s affinity with Art Deco followed by a 1 hour guided walk with a member from the Art Deco Trust. Aside of Art Deco Napier’s other claim to fame is the region is also one of New Zealand’s top grape growing regions with some of the country’s best-known wines coming from the Hawke’s Bay. This afternoon we visit New Zealand’s oldest wine-maker - Mission Estate established since 1851 by the French Marist religious order, the Mission is housed in an elegantly restored historic seminary building with sweeping views of Napier. We enjoy a tasting at the cellar door before travelling back into Napier to our overnight accommodation.

Day 2 Wednesday, 21 April 2021
GANNETS AND GRAPES AND HONEY (BD)
After breakfast this morning we travel out to Te Awanga to join an overland gannet safari to Cape Kidnappers. Onboard a comfortable 4-wheel drive bus, Gannet Safaris overland tour will take you to the huge Gannet Sanctuary at Cape Kidnappers. This is the largest, most accessible and most spectacular mainland nesting place of Gannets in the world with over 20,000 birds – members of the Booby family with distinctive black eye markings and a pale gold crown. Visitors to the colony will see adults and young nesting in serried rows. In the air birds swoop and dive as they bring fish home from fishing at sea. On the ground the pairs preen and perform the dance of the gannets recognition ritual. Unlike the tractor tour along the beach this tour has the advantage of a very easy walk to the gannet colony. After the tour we make a few visits in the area to visit a few local wineries and also include a visit to the home of Arataki Honey – a family staple since 1944!
Day 3 Thursday, 22 April 2021
NAPIER / MASTERTON (BD)
Today travel south through the rolling farmlands of Central Hawkes Bay into the Wairarapa region. Wairarapa is New Zealand’s fifth largest wine region producing some 1.7% of the national crop. The Wairarapa Valley enjoys a sunny, dry climate with vines planted on free-draining, low vigour soils resulting in intensely flavoured grapes. During our journey today we visit the Mt.Bruce Wild Life Centre. It is here that you will become knowledgeable about New Zealand’s unique conservation history. Interactive displays in the visitor centre are fascinating and fun for children and adults alike. Intriguing stories are told about Pukaha Mount Bruce and its vision, challenges and achievements via interpretation displays. The souvenir shop, offers a fabulous range of New Zealand-made gifts. There is a cafe attached to the centre where you will be able to purchase your lunch before we make our way to Masterton and our base for the next few days.

Day 4 Friday, 23 April 2021
MASTERTON – CASTLEPOINT – PLUS AN EVENING AT STONEHENGE (BLD)
Today we enjoy a later start as today is going to be a late night but also a day with spectacular sights! We travel to the coast to the popular seaside resort of Castlepoint. With its fossil-rich limestone reef, lighthouse and magnificent 162 metre high Castle Rock, Castlepoint is one of the most spectacular sites along the Wairarapa coastline. The area was named in 1770 by Captain Cook, who observed that Castle Rock resembled the battlements of a castle. The reef, lagoon, sand dunes and Castle Rock are all part of Castlepoint Scenic Reserve. There is a short walk to explore Lighthouse Walk (30 minutes return) for those who would like some exercise. Castlepoint's beach is often visited by dolphins and fur seals. Look also for sea birds - white-fronted terns, red-billed gulls and black shags inhabit the south end of the reef; reef herons and black-backed gulls nest on the sheer cliffs of Castle Rock. A picnic lunch will be arranged for you to enjoy. Those who want a swim, remember to pack your togs. Stop through the tiny historic settlement of Tinui en route from Castlepoint. Time will be allowed to browse the Tinui Craft Store and Museum for a look at life for the early wool traders. We retrace our steps back to our Masterton accommodation for dinner then this evening we visit Stonehenge – or at least Stonehenge Aotearoa - where you can learn about the sky and the earth on a Star Safari!
Day 5 Saturday, 24 April 2021
MASTERTON – WELLINGTON VIA FEATHERSTONE (BD)
Travelling south today via the quaint towns of Carterton and Greytown, our first stop is to visit the Fell Museum. The fascinating history of the Rimutaka Incline and its Fell locomotives is recalled with photographs, models, memorabilia films and the spectacular audio-visual presentation "Rimutaka 1949". Step back in time and experience a unique aspect of New Zealand's railway heritage! This afternoon we travel over the Rimutaka Hill, and through the Hutt Valley in Wellington. ON arrival we enjoy an afternoon orientation tour of the Capital City before arriving into our accommodation.

WELLINGTON ANZAC DAY (BD)
Since opening on 18 April 2015, tens of thousands have visited Pukeahu National War Memorial Park to reflect on their own personal experience and to acknowledge New Zealand’s contribution to military conflict and peacekeeping missions throughout the world. On Anzac Day, Pukeahu will host a number of events. We rise early this morning allowing those who wish to attend the 6am Dawn Service, then return to our hotel for breakfast, before embarking on a Wellington City Tour including a visit to Te Papa for a ‘Fabulous Te Papa’ guided tour. This ninety-minute tour will focus on the treasures or ‘taonga’ of New Zealand and covers exhibition highlights from the natural environment, Maori culture and treasures, art and colonial history. Time also to explore Te Papa independently - view the exhibition “Gallipoli” open to visitors on ANZAC Day. ‘Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War’ combines the world of museums with the world-class creative artistry of Weta Workshops to immerse you in the eight-month Gallipoli campaign. This ground-breaking exhibition tells the story through the eyes and words of eight ordinary New Zealander’s who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances. Each is captured frozen in a moment of time on a monumental scale - 2.4 times human size. Cutting edge technology was used to create 3-D maps and projections, miniatures, models, dioramas and a range of experiences that bring New Zealand’s Gallipoli story to life.

Passengers rotate seats in the coach daily so that all passengers have the opportunity to enjoy forward and window seating. All passengers are expected to participate as a booking condition.

How much luggage can I bring?
Luggage is restricted to one suitcase and one small item of hand luggage per person. Baggage handling of one suitcase per person, at each hotel, is included in the trip price. Carry-on/hand luggage handling is the responsibility of each guest and all personal items must be taken off the coach by you each day of the trip.
What clothing should I pack?
When on tour, dress is generally relaxed and casual with an informal dress standard on most occasions. Casual wear is recommended for travelling with something a little more formal for evening dining. If taking part in outdoor activities, make sure you have a waterproof coat, comfortable footwear and dress in layers to help you adjust to any sudden changes in climate. Be prepared for New Zealand’s powerful sun, even on cold windy days, bringing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Acceptance of Terms and Conditions
If you book a Packaged Tour with us and pay your deposit, you are deemed to have accepted these terms. If you booked your Packaged Tour with us through an agent, the agent is deemed to have accepted these terms on your behalf. We may ask you to sign a copy of these terms when you join your Packaged Tour to provide a record of your acceptance of these terms and you agree to sign these terms on our request.
The itinerary for your Packaged Tour was correct at the time of printing, but it is subject to change without notice. Your itinerary could change due to road or weather conditions, changes imposed by other tour operators or a range of other factors outside our control. You agree that we have no liability to you for changes to your itinerary.
Prices were correct at the time and date of printing, however Leisure Time Tours reserves the right to amend the price subject to any changes in price imposed by other tour operators and carriers included in the itinerary or major fluctuation in the exchange rates, or increases in government or other levies. The final tour cost will be guaranteed not to change once the full and final payment has been received. Tour Price excludes drinks, telephone calls, travel insurance and items of a personal nature. Leisure Time Tours also reserves the right to cancel the tour due to low numbers and in this instance a full refund will be provided.

Health and Fitness
Passengers should be in good health and able to walk moderate distances to fully participate and experience the sightseeing opportunities within the enclosed itinerary. All passengers are required to acknowledge that they are of reasonable health and are considered to be fit to travel and are not travelling contrary to any medical advice. By acknowledging their health and fitness to participate passengers are indemnifying us from all actions, claims and demands arising out of any lack of health and fitness. We reserve the right to remove a passenger from a tour if their health or fitness interferes with any other passenger’s experiences or the day to day running of the tour. In this instance our normal cancellation terms and conditions will apply. You agree that we have no liability to you for any loss, damage, costs or other effects of health problems you may encounter on your Packaged Tour.
Health and Safety Information Including COVID-19
For the health and safety of all passengers on tour any illness (such as fever, coughing or difficulty breathing) will not be accepted onboard the coach unless they can provide us with a negative Covid19 test result received within the past 72 hours. Should any passenger start to feel unwell on arrival or while on tour, they must immediately advise their tour manager and contact Healthline then visit a medical practitioner/medical centre/hospital. To return to the tour the passenger must be deemed fit and well to participate fully on a coach tour, obtaining and providing us with a written medical clearance – not just a negative Covid19 test. Any costs incurred will be at the passenger’s own expense.
Payments, Cancellations and Refunds
A non-refundable deposit per person is required at time of booking to confirm your seat. All balance payments must be received by Leisure Time Tours prior to the date specified as per itinerary or your booking confirmation. Payments are available to be made by Cash, Cheque, Direct Credit or EFTPOS only – Credit Card payments are not available without an additional surcharge. Leisure Time Tours reserves the right to amend or reschedule the tour due the result of circumstances outside the company’s control. Leisure Time Tours also reserves the right to cancel the tour due to insufficient numbers and in this instance a substitute date will be offered or a full refund will be made available. Land Component Cancellation Policy
By making a booking with us and paying your deposit you agree to pay us the full price for your booking. If you cancel your booking:
- 31+ days prior to tour commencement, loss of non-refundable deposit
- 15-30 days prior to tour commencement your cancellation charge will be 60% of the holiday price (40% refund) plus any applicable supplier cancellation fees
- 8-14 days prior to tour commencement your cancellation charge will be 80% of the holiday price (20% refund) plus any applicable supplier cancellation fees
- 0-7 days prior to tour commencement your cancellation charge will be 100% of the holiday price (no refund)
No refunds on any unused portions of any itinerary. The exception is if a sightseeing service is cancelled by operator due to weather conditions/safety concerns etc and the operator authorises a refund. Any such refunds will be processed through agent.

COVID-19 Cancellation and Refund Policy
COVID-19 has created uncertainty for us all, therefore for cancellations directly related to COVID-19, we have negotiated special terms with our suppliers which would override ‘normal cancellation’ terms as outlined above;
If the New Zealand Government imposes travel restrictions that would impact our ability to deliver your travel package prior to commencing travel, passengers will receive a full credit, less any applicable airline cancellation fees. If travel restrictions are imposed while on tour, we will seek credits on any unused portions of the itinerary from all suppliers. Any applicable credits will first be applied to any additional costs that our company may have incurred on the passenger’s behalf e.g. if alternative accommodation or transportation to repatriate the passenger to their home city or nearest airport etc is required. Any remaining refunds will be credited to the booking agent to enable them to pass onto their passenger.
If a passenger has been tested positive for COVID-19 directly prior to travel or while on holiday with us, then with supporting documentation provided to us (a positive COVID-19 test), we will seek credits on any unused portions of the itinerary from all suppliers. Any applicable credits will first be applied to any additional costs that our company may have incurred on the passenger’s behalf e.g. if alternative accommodation or transportation to repatriate the passenger to their home city or nearest airport etc is required. Any remaining refunds will be credited to the booking agent to enable them to pass onto their passenger.
