Day 1              Saturday 09 November 2024

JOURNEY TO AUCKLAND                                                                            (D)

Our tour begins today with an overnight stay in Auckland to prepare for our early flight to Hobart tomorrow morning. Tonight we enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant, a perfect opportunity to meet our fellow travellers.

Day 2              Sunday 10 November 2024  

AUCKLAND – HOBART – PORT ARTHUR                                                     (FM,D)

Early this morning we are transferred to Auckland International Airport. Today we fly across the Tasman Sea from Auckland, directly into Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. Breakfast is included on the flight.

Welcome to Tasmania! We arrive into Hobart we make our way to the historic town of Richmond, where the streets are paved his history, we stop to capture the oldest bridge in Australia, the convict-built Richmond Bridge. Stroll the pretty nineteenth century lanes and discover the arts and crafts, bakeries and tea rooms. After exploring the village, we travel to our overnight accommodation in Port Arthur. Dinner is included at our accommodation tonight.

Day 3              Monday 11 November 2024  

PORT ARTHUR – TASMAN PENINSULA – HOBART                                     (BD)

After breakfast we visit Port Arthur Historic Site. The penal settlement is a special place of vivid history, cultural heritage and has stories so compelling you’ll want to hear them again and again. The penal settlement is a stark reminder of the harsh conditions endured by the earliest European inhabitants of this one-time island jail which housed up to 12,000 prisoners who were kept in an atmosphere of hopelessness and misery. We take a fascinating journey, retracting the lives of convicts at the Visitor Centre, before a walking tour through the settlement and a harbour cruise. Departing Port Arthur, we have a brief stop just south of Eaglehawk Neck to see two dramatic natural coastal attractions – The Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen. On arrival into the capital city, Hobart we embark on a sightseeing tour learning of Hobart’s rich history of its past and many new developments of the area. Discover Sullivan’s Cove, Battery Point, Salamanca Place, Constitution Docks and the waterfront. Before dinner we check into our hotel where we can unpack as this will be our home for the next four nights.

Day 4              Tuesday 12 November 2024  

RUSSELL FALLS & SALMON PONDS                                                            (BLD)

Travelling through Derwent Valley to New Norfolk, we explore the range of antique and eclectic shops. Next, we visit Russell Falls, arguably Tasmania’s prettiest waterfall and one of the easiest to access. Located in Mt Field National Park, Russell Falls forms as one of three falls that share the same watercourse. Wander through the mossy, deep green forest and watch the water cascading gently over multiple levels creating a unique and beautiful waterfall. We stop at Salmon Ponds, the oldest trout hatchery in the Southern Hemisphere (1861) and known as the birthplace of trout in Australia. Here we can walk amidst the historic buildings, hatchery and fish ponds – all set within the original 19th century English style gardens. after a lovely lunch in the onsite café, we return to Hobart.

 

Day 5              Wednesday 13 November 2024  

DAY OF LEISURE                                                                                           (BD)

We have a free day to explore Hobart. There are many options (own expense and arrangement) including a visit to MONA (Museum of Old & New Art), a wilderness cruise to either Tasman Island or Bruny Island, spend some time in the shopping precinct or wander the Royal Botanic Gardens. we meet back with the group for dinner at our hotel to share our stories from the day.

 

Day 6              Thursday 14 November 2024  

HUON VALLEY & PRIVATE GARDEN                                                            (BLD)

Our first stop is to take in the panoramic views of the city and estuary from Mount Nelson before travelling to the seaside town of Margate where we stop at the Margate Train that offers shopping with a difference. The Margate Train – formally known as the Tasman Limited – made its final rail journey in 1978 and now houses a variety of retail business including arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and a microbrewery. We make our way to Crawleighwood Garden & Nursery where the delightful garden features rhododendrons, maple woodlands and Gondwanan rainforest species. There are also many rare and unusual plants just waiting to be discovered. After lunch we return to Hobart for some time at leisure before dinner at Drunken Admiral Restaurant.

 

Day 7              Friday 15 November 2024  

WEST COAST – QUEENSTOWN – STRAHAN                                                (BD)

We begin our journey to the West Coast. Arriving in Derwent Bridge (the geographical centre of Tasmania) we stop to visit Wall in the Wilderness, a magnificent art installation depicting the history of the region through its massive wall carvings. The panels measure 100-metres in length. We continue driving through the pristine wilderness of the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park through some of the state’s most spectacular lakes and mountain areas before the steep drive into Queenstown, a town which established as a result of the discovery of old and other minerals at Mount Lyell last century. Our day finishes in pretty town of Strahan, on the banks of the Macquarie Harbour.

Day 8              Saturday 16 November 2024  

GORDON RIVER CRUISE                                                                               (BLD)

We are in for a stunning day as our World Heritage Cruise take us into the wild and remote waters of Macquarie Harbour and Gordon River. Our cruise will bring the river and its history to life for an unforgettable experience. Cruising the scenic waterways, we’ll listen to the intriguing stories of the region, passage through Hells Gate and step ashore Sarah Island to see some of Australia’s oldest convict ruins. The highlight will be the serenity and famous reflections as we cruise along the Gordon River. We finish with a boardwalk stroll through the ancient forests at Heritage Landing including the incredible Huon Pine Trees close up. After an incredible day on the water, we return to Strahan. This evening you may choose (own arrangement) to join in with Australia’s longest running play, ‘The Ship That Never Was’ which tells the dramatic and hilarious true story of the great escape from Sarah Island.

 

Day 9              Sunday 17 November 2024  

CRADLE MOUNTAIN – DOVE LAKE – SMITHTON                                        (BLD)

Making our way through the rugged West Coast, we discover the rugged mountains, ancient rainforests and stunning scenery of Cradle Mountain. Visit Waldheim Chalet, built from traditional bush carpentry techniques, enjoy a lovely stroll along Weindorfers Walk through the rainforest and Dove Lake offering spectacular views of Cradle Mountain. Lunch will be served at Cradle Mountain Hotel. Leaving the stunning area, we drive north to arrive in Smithton for our overnight stay.

Day 10            Monday 18 November 2024  

STANLEY – BURNIE – LAUNCESTON                                                             (BLD)

Stanley has a village atmosphere, with small craft shops, historic houses (including the cottage where Australian Prime Minister Joseph Lyons was born) and tea houses making it the ideal place to discover this morning. A chairlift operates to the summit of the Nut (optional, own expense). Leaving Stanley, we continue to the coastal port of Burnie, we drop into the House of Anvers for lunch and a taste of their delicious Belgian style chocolate. On arrival to Launceston, we are met by a local guide who will showcase the historic streetscapes, amazing architectural style and century old parks. We spend the remainder of the afternoon in Cataract Gorge – a magnificent reserve in the city centre. These gardens have evolved for over a century and are still one of the most popular paces in the city to relax in and enjoy nature. There are some pleasant walks through the landscaped gardens to the tea rooms, or those that are interested can take a ride on the chairlift (own expense) which crosses the gorge.

Day 11            Tuesday 19 November 2024  

BEACONSFIELD – NORTH EAST – ST HELENS                                              (BD)

Today we journey through the picturesque Tamar Valley. Step into a Swiss village as we stop at Grindelwald. Inspired by a scenic holiday to Grindelwald in Switzerland, Mrs Vos pleaded with her husband to move. As Mr Vos, a Tasmanian businessman could not up and leave, he did the only thing he could and built Mrs Vos her very own Swiss Village. Wander the shopping arcade, browse the gift stores or enjoy a cuppa at the chocolate café (own expense). At Beaconsfield we visit the Gold and Heritage Museum. Who could forget those dramatic television pictures on the morning of Tuesday 9 May 2006 when Todd Russell and Brant Webb emerged from the mine, 14 days after being trapped almost 1-kilometre underground? Here we enjoy a guided tour of the centre which has a collection of interactive experiences that brings the story of the mine to life. Continuing our journey east, we veer off to a little place called Legerwood to see the incredible tree carving, honouring fallen soldiers of World War I. We continue to our overnight destination, St Helens.

Day 12            Wednesday 20 November 2024  

EAST COAST – TASMANIAN DEVIL – HOBART                                             (BD)

Following breakfast, we arrive at East Coast Natureworld, featuring 150-acres of natural parkland and lagoons. Here we’ll have a chance to get up close and personal with the animals and meet the keepers as we watch feeding time with the local Tasmanian Devil. Stopping in Swansea, a town nestled on the magnificent blue waters of Great Oyster Bay, we enjoy our afternoon break while marvelling at the mountain range called the Hazards. Leaving Swansea, we spot Spikey Bridge – there will be no doubt as to how it got its name. We return to Hobart for our final night on tour together. Our farewell dinner will be in our hotel restaurant.

Day 13            Thursday 21 November 2024

HOBART – AUCKLAND                                                                                 (B,FM)

With our bags packed full of wonderful memories, we head to Hobart Airport for our flight back to Auckland. What an incredible adventure we’ve had, exploring the wild and wonderful Tasmania!

Yes. Leisure Time Tours offers a free home collection and drop off service from selected Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua and most Auckland City areas. Our complimentary collections are based on your individual post code, other home collection locations available at an additional cost. Alternatively you may wish to meet us at our Hamilton depot in which case you can park your car in our secure yard free of charge for the duration of your holiday. For all tours that have a flight component, we can also offer door to door collections from Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin city areas.

Yes. It is a condition of travelling on one of our overseas tours that you hold valid travel insurance for the duration of the tour.

Luggage is restricted to one suitcase and one small item of hand luggage per person. Baggage handling of one suitcase per person, at each hotel, is included in the trip price. Carry-on/hand luggage handling is the responsibility of each guest.

Acceptance of Terms and Conditions 

If you book a Packaged Tour with us and pay your deposit, you are deemed to have accepted these terms. If you book a Leisure Time Travel tour through an agent, the agent is deemed to have accepted these terms on your behalf.  We may ask you to sign a copy of these terms when you join your Packaged Tour to provide a record of your acceptance of these terms and you agree to sign these terms on our request. 

 

Itineraries  
The itinerary for your Packaged Tour was correct at the time of printing but is subject to change without notice. This could come about due to road or weather conditions, or any changes imposed by other tour operators and carriers included in the itinerary. Such changes may occur prior to travel, or whilst on tour. You agree that we have no liability to you for changes to your itinerary. If a passenger amends their itinerary by starting or concluding the itinerary earlier or later, then it becomes their responsibility to arrange tour or flight connections as necessary.  

 

Travel Insurance 

It is a booking condition for all passengers travelling on Leisure Time Travel overseas tours to have a travel insurance policy with comprehensive cover valid for the dates of travel. We can assist with a travel insurance quotation, or you may opt to arrange your own. If you choose to arrange your own travel insurance, you must provide Leisure Time Travel with policy details prior to the balance of the tour payment being made.   

 

Passports  

All travellers require a current passport which must have a minimum validity of six months after the date you return from the tour to New Zealand. We will require a copy of your passport details when you make a booking.  

 

Visas, Customs and Immigration 

Compliance with any immigration, customs and/or quarantine regulations is the client’s responsibility. Leisure Time Travel cannot, under any circumstances, be held liable nor responsible if applicable rules and regulations are not observed.  

 

Vaccinations 

We strongly recommend that you consult with your doctor or travel doctor, 

particularly for travel to developing countries. 

 

Health and Fitness 
Passengers should be in good health and able to walk moderate distances to fully participate and experience the sightseeing opportunities within the enclosed itinerary. All passengers are required to acknowledge that they are of reasonable health and are considered to be fit to travel and are not travelling contrary to any medical advice. By acknowledging their health and fitness to participate, passengers are indemnifying us from all actions, claims and demands arising out of any lack of health and fitness. We reserve the right to remove a passenger from a tour if their health or fitness interferes with any other passenger’s experiences or the day to day running of the tour. In this instance our normal cancellation terms and conditions will apply. You agree that we have no liability to you for any loss, damage, costs or other effects of health problems you may encounter on your Packaged Tour.  

 

Travellers Who Require Assistance  

It is a requirement of joining your Packaged Tour that you disclose to us at time of booking, any disability requiring special attention.  This includes physical disability, difficulty walking, hearing or eyesight impairment, or any neurological disorders Should your health circumstances change between time of booking and travel date, we require you to disclose if you now have any disability requiring special attention.    While every effort is made to accommodate such difficulties, we are not responsible in the event we are unable to do so, and are not responsible for any denial of services by third party operators including airlines, accommodation providers and tour operators.  Our concern must always be for the enjoyment and welfare of the group as a whole, and we regret that we cannot provide individual assistance to participants for walking, getting on and off motor coaches or vessels, or other personal needs. A physically and mentally able companion must accompany travellers who need such assistance. 

 

Seat Changes 
Passengers rotate seats in the coach daily so that all passengers have the opportunity to enjoy forward and window seating. All passengers are expected to participate as a booking condition. 

 

Luggage  

Please refer to specific tour brochures for luggage information and restrictions.     

Although every effort is made to handle guests’ luggage carefully, we cannot be responsible, assume liability or accept claims for loss or damage to luggage and personal effects due to breakage, theft, or fair wear and tear through hotel, airline and group carrier handling. Therefore, it is important for protection that passengers make certain they have adequate travel insurance to cover these eventualities.  

 

Car Parking at Leisure Time Tours Yard 

The car parking facility (“Facility”) offered for passengers is provided for the convenience of our patrons only. The use of this Facility is entirely at the risk of the vehicle owner. Leisure Time Tours Ltd(“Company”) shall not be responsible for any loss, theft, damage, or vandalism to vehicles or their contents while parked in the Facility.The Company disclaims all liability for any accidents, injuries, or damages that may occur within the Facility, including, but not limited to, collisions between vehicles, slips, falls, or any other accidents.All vehicles parked in the Facility must be properly insured. Vehicle owners are responsible for ensuring that their insurance covers any damage or loss that may occur while their vehicle is in the Facility.By using the Facility, the vehicle owner or operator agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Company, its employees, agents, and affiliates from any claims, liabilities, losses, costs, or expenses arising out of or in connection with the use of the Facility.The Company reserves the right to refuse entry to or eject any vehicle or individual from the Facility at its discretion.The Company does not guarantee the security or surveillance of the Facility, and patrons are encouraged to take appropriate precautions to safeguard their vehicles and possessions.The terms and conditions of this disclaimer are subject to change without notice.  

 

Price Amendments 

Prices were correct at the time and date of printing; however, Leisure Time Travel reserves the right to amend the price subject to any changes in price imposed by other tour operators and carriers included in the itinerary or major fluctuation in the exchange rates, or increases in government or other levies. The final tour cost will be guaranteed not to change once the full and final payment has been received.  

 

Exclusions 

Tour price excludes airport departure taxes, drinks, telephone calls, gratuities, any passport or visa costs, travel insurance, items of a personal nature, optional sightseeing activities, and costs for variations made outside the group travel arrangements.  

   

Payments, Cancellations and Refunds 

A non-refundable deposit is required when booking to confirm your place on a tour. Registrations will be accepted in order of receipt of deposits. 
All balance payments must be received by Leisure Time Travel prior to the date specified as per itinerary or your booking confirmation. Payments are available to be made by Cash, Direct Credit or EFTPOS – Credit Card payments will incur an additional surcharge. Leisure Time Travel reserves the right to amend, reschedule or cancel the tour due the result ofcircumstances outside the company’s control. Leisure Time Travel also reserves the right to cancel the tour due to insufficient numbers and in this instance a substitute date will be offered, or a full refund will be made available.

Our Responsibilities 
We are responsible for booking and packaging goods and services provided by other operators such as hotels, attractions, and transportation companies to create your Packaged Tour. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the terms that will apply to those goods and services. We are not responsible and have no liability to you for the terms of other operators or for any loss, damage, omission or acts, negligent or otherwise, committed by those other operators. 

 

Your Responsibilities 
You agree to behave reasonably throughout your Packaged Tour and not to be a nuisance to other passengers. You agree to comply with these terms and the terms that apply to any goods or services supplied to you by other operators. You also agree to comply with our reasonable requests and the requests of other operators. You indemnify us for any liability, costs, damages or other expenses we suffer or incur as a direct or indirect consequence of your behaviour while part of your Packaged Tour. 

 

Removal from Tour 
For the wellbeing of all passengers on your Packaged Tour, we reserve the right to remove you from your Packaged Tour and cancel your booking with us if you breach any of your obligations under these terms provided that, except in the case of a serious breach (as determined by us) we will give you notice of the breach and a reasonable opportunity (which will be no more than two days) to remedy the breach before exercising our cancellation right. In the case of a serious breach, we can exclude you from your Packaged Tour and cancel your booking by immediate verbal or written notice to you. In the event of such cancellation, you will be responsible, at your cost, for arranging any accommodation, travel costs and other matters required as a direct or indirect consequence of the cancellation.  

 

Tour Manager 

Your group Packaged Tour will be escorted and lead by a Tour Manager. The Tour Manager will make their best endeavours to ensure your tour is enjoyable and safe, and that the well-being and travel arrangements of the group are looked after. Leisure Time Travel will not be liable for any costs or losses arising from any advice or recommendation made by the Tour Manager, or any other representative, or decisions made by any person as a result of such statements.  

 

Force Majeure 
You agree that we have no liability to you and will not pay any compensation to you where the performance of our contractual obligations is prevented or affected by circumstances amounting to “force majeure”. In these terms, ‘force majeure’ means any event that has an impact on your Packaged Tour which we or the other operator (where relevant) could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. Such events may include war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, pilferage, epidemics, pandemics, forced quarantine, medical or customs regulations, riot, fire, storm, flood, explosion, compliance with any law or government restraint order, rule regulation, strikes, lock outs, or any other cause not reasonably within the control of our control. We reserve the right to cancel, amend or reschedule your Packaged Tour during or following any force majeure and if we do so you agree that we will have no liability to you for any direct or indirect consequences of the cancellation, amendment or rescheduling. 
 

Privacy Act Waiver 

Travellers joining our tours automatically give consent for us to pass essential personal information to our suppliers on the tour as necessary.   This information may include full name; address; passport number; travel details; contact details; dietary requirements and health information.  

 

Limitation of Liability 
The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, and other statutes in New Zealand may impose warranties, conditions or obligations upon us which cannot by law (or which can only to a limited extent by law) be excluded. We exclude all such imposed warranties, conditions or obligations to the extent permitted by law and exclude any warranty, condition or obligation imposed or implied under common law, equity or otherwise. Except to the extent that the law prevents us from excluding liability and as expressly provided for in these terms, we shall not be liable for any loss or damage or liability of any kind whatsoever (including consequential loss or lost profit or business) whether suffered or incurred by you or another person and whether in contract, or tort (including in negligence), or otherwise and whether such loss or damage arises directly or indirectly from Work or Goods provided by us to you. To the extent that we are liable for any reason for any loss suffered or liability incurred by you arising from any breach of these terms or for any other reason, such liability is limited to the price of your Packaged Tour.
