JOURNEY TO PIROPIRO (D)
Depart late morning from Hamilton to the Otorohanga Kiwi House for a self-guided walk through the sanctuary. Afterwards we travel further into the King Country and have time to purchase lunch (own cost) in Waitomo Village. This afternoon we enjoy a series of short scenic walks including Mangapohue Natural Bridge – a 17-metre high limestone arch and view the Marokopa Falls - at 35-metres high, the falls are said to be one of the most beautiful in the country and are well worth a visit. Early this evening we retrace our journey back to Waitomo Village for a private sunset glowworm tour. Our experience begins with a short walk through breath-taking New Zealand native bush to the cave entrance. Inside the cave, solar powered lights are kept low so you can appreciate the magnificent glow worm displays at their best, only inches away. Around a corner lie the bones of one of New Zealand’s lost treasures, the ancient Moa. Accompanied by our private guide we will learn about and see cave formations up close and appreciate the beauty of Footwhistle Cave. The light will have changed by the time we exit the cave which will give the glowworms the perfect opportunity to put on a spectacular show. This evening, we continue to our accommodation arriving in time for dinner at our lodge.
