Our day starts with a scenic journey through the Waikato countryside with slowly changing scenery as we pass through Rotorua and the Kaingaroa Forest to reach Ruatahuna. Enjoy lunch here (own cost) before we finish our journey to Lake Waikaremoana. As the largest untouched native forest in New Zealand, we are in for a treat as we view the large and deep lake where a petrified forest lives under the water. Fill up your camera roll before we head to our accommodation in Wairoa, where we enjoy a group dinner.

Day 2              Wednesday 29 March 2023
WAIROA - NAPIER          (BD)
This morning we travel on from Wairoa to visit the Mahia Peninsula and enjoy the scenery of this popular summer holiday location while we have a cuppa. After travelling back inland for some time, we head towards the coast again to arrive in the Art Deco city of Napier. Taking a tour around this seaside town known for the many amazing wineries found here, we take in some of the distinctive Art Deco architecture before reaching our accommodation. We dine as a group at the hotel tonight.
Accommodation: Scenic Te Pania, Napier – 2 nights

Day 3              Thursday 30 March 2023
NAPIER          (BD)
Taking the scenic route this morning, we travel along the coast to Te Awanga where we board the Gannet Safaris Overland, to visit the world’s largest, most accessible gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers. For the last 35-years, Gannet Safaris have been taking people right up to view these remarkable birds. The 3-hour safari stops right at the top of a spectacular cliff allowing us to take in the amazing views of the Hawkes Bay, meet the gannets that make their home here, and have time to enjoy some light refreshments. Once our safari has concluded we visit Havelock North and Hastings before returning to Napier, where we enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Day 4              Friday 31 March 2023
NAPIER - TAIHAPE          (BD)
Take this morning to explore Napier and find a local cafe/restaurant for an early lunch (own cost). Leaving behind Napier we make our way down the Gentle Annie Road. This winding road has a long history from early Maori travellers, to a sheep and wool passage and eventually a vehicle route in 1919. Ascending to the skies, the stunning country views reach all the way to Ruapehu on a clear day. Descending to the old Springvale suspension bridge, we cross the Rangitikei River to reach Taihape, our final destination for today. Tonight, we enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant.
