Day 2          Monday 04 April 2022
CHRISTCHURCH – HANMER SPRINGS          (BD)
Following breakfast today we commence our day with a Christchurch city sightseeing tour.  See the city’s rebuilding programme including a walk around Cathedral Square to view the works on the restoration of the Cathedral.  Next we head out via the eastern suburbs to New Brighton for a walk along the pier, and the chance to buy a coffee along the seaside to enjoy the views.  Our journey northbound continues through North Canterbury stopping along the way for some lunch (own cost) before cutting inland towards the Hurunui District via the Weka Pass and Mount Culverden to Hanmer Springs.  Before our arrival at Hanmer we make a stop for a thrilling jet boat ride through the spectacular Waiau River canyon with spins and thrills galore on the Hanmer Springs Jet Boat ride. This afternoon we arrive into Hanmer Springs for an orientation tour to show you where you are and then arrive at our accommodation for the next two nights.  Dinner tonight at our hotel.
Accommodation: Hanmer Springs Hotel – 2 nights

Day 3          Tuesday 05 April 2022
RELAX IN HANMER SPRINGS          (B)
A full day of leisure in Hanmer Springs allows for a wide range of optional activities or just relax!  Sit back and relax in the calming waters of the pools or choose from a range of indulgent body therapies on offer at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa. Don’t forget that Hanmer Springs also has a wide range of boutique shopping, galleries and a great selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from as well.  You’ll soon see why this beautiful alpine village is so popular among the local Cantabrians!  Tonight is also at your leisure to explore some of the local cafes and restaurants.

Day 4          Wednesday 06 April 2022
HANMER SPRINGS – HOKITIKA          (BD)
Today our trip “Over the Alps” continues, travelling from Hanmer Springs via the Lewis Pass through Springs Junction to Reefton, taking the back roads to visit the Pike River Memorial and pop into Blackball named after the Black Ball Shipping Line, which leased land in the area to mine for coal.   At Blackball we visit the local pub – formerly known as the Blackball Hilton, which was built in 1910 – oh if the walls could talk!  This is our lunch stop (at own cost) today before carrying on to the Coast!  Our journey over the Alps terminates in Greymouth, where we head north to visit Punakaiki.  Punakaiki is the home of the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes Walk so we have time to get into nature and take some photos before retracing our steps to Greymouth then onto Hokitika – our base for the next two nights.  Dinner tonight is at our accommodation.
Accommodation: Beachfront Hotel, Hokitika – 2 nights

Day 5          Thursday 07 April 2022
EXPLORING AROUND HOKITIKA           (B)
After a leisurely breakfast we head out to Lake Kaniere - regarded by many as the most beautiful of the West Coast lakes, and popular tourist and leisure destination for the locals.  Continuing we arrive at the picturesque Hokitika Gorge bushwalk. A short and easy walk to the suspension bridge down to the river is through pristine mature podocarp forest of the Hokitika Scenic Reserve. When you reach the Hokitika River the first thing you will notice is the blue green colour of the Hokitika River. The bridge offers spectacular views of the Hokitika Gorge, mature forested surrounds and the foothills of the Southern Alps.  From the Hokitika Gorge we retrace our steps towards Hokitika then head south to the West Coast Tree Tops Walkway.  As the name suggests the walkway is among the tree-tops with outstanding views of native bush, nearby Lake Mahinapua and the Tasman Sea.  When we arrive back in Hokitika we visit a local glass blowing factory and greenstone carving operation before returning to our accommodation.  Tonight dinner is at leisure.  The hotel has a lovely restaurant overlooking the Tasman Sea, or maybe wander across the street to dine at a local favourite – Stumpers Bar & Café, or maybe head to the local fish and chip shop and enjoy a kiwi favourite on the beach!

Day 6          Friday 08 April 2022
HOKITIKA – CHRISTCHURCH          (BD)
This morning is another easy start– enjoy breakfast in your own time and maybe take a walk along the beach.  We depart Hokitika to commence our journey back over the Alps again, heading to Arthurs Pass to board the TranzAlpine train into Christchurch.  The TranzAlpine is one of the world's great train journeys traversing the magnificent Southern Alps descending into Christchurch criss-crossing the vast braided river network of the Waimakariri River, then roaming across the vast patchwork plains of Canterbury - one of New Zealand's primary agricultural regions back into Christchurch.  On arrival we re-board our coach and travel back to our Christchurch accommodation.  Dinner tonight is provided at our accommodation.
Accommodation: Heartland Cotswold Hotel, Christchurch

DEPART CHRISTCHURCH          (B)
