Day 2          Friday 01 October 2021
WORLD OF WEARABLE ARTS AWARDS SHOW          (BD)
We commence our day with a sightseeing journey around Wellington. Our first stop for the day will be the Cable Car Lookout point in Kelburn. For those interested, you may wish to ride the cable car up to the lookout (free entry with your NZ Gold Card). The cable cars run from Lambton Quay in the commercial heart of the city, tunnel under the corporate towers of The Terrace continue past Kelburn Park and the Victoria University to the top of Upland Road, where the Lookout, Carter Observatory, Planetarium and Cable Car Museum are located. The view from the lookout takes in the city's central business district and out across the harbour to the Hutt Valley, Eastbourne and Mt. Victoria. The coach will take those not wanting to go in the cable car to this point.  We will then go by coach to the Botanical Gardens where you will have time to look around the rose gardens and the begonia house or perhaps relax with a coffee. We then continue our sightseeing tour heading out to Kilbirnie before winding our way back into the city around Evans Bay and Oriental Bay. This afternoon is at leisure. Some may like to be dropped off at Te Papa where you can quite easily spend a couple of hours while others may like to be dropped off in Lambton Quay where you can browse around the shopping area, step back in time at the Old Bank Shopping Arcade, designed by John Turnball 100 years ago. You would then make your own way back to the hotel. We enjoy a group dinner at the hotel before the show, so please be back by 5:30pm, for a 6:00pm dinner. After our dinner we walk down as a group the short distance to TSB Arena for the feature of our tour: The World of WearableArt Awards Show, which has bedazzled audiences in New Zealand with their magic and ingenuity for over 30 years. What began as a small local competition has grown to become WOW, a theatrical spectacle and magnet for extraordinary talent from around the world.  WOW is an internationally renowned design competition that attracts entries from over 40 countries. Anything that is wearable art can find a place on the stage, as long as it is original, innovative and well executed.

Day 3          Saturday 02 October 2021
WELLINGTON – MASTERTON – NAPIER          (BD)
This morning we will be travelling north crossing the Rimutaka Ranges to Featherston, the southern gateway to the Wairarapa. Continuing our travels we pass through Greytown, a town which has preserved a somewhat Victorian feel with its two-storey wooden buildings, then on to Masterton - the largest town in the Wairarapa.  Masterton plays a traditional role as the service centre for extended urban and rural communities.  After a morning tea stop here we continue our journey through Central Hawkes Bay to Hastings and Napier. Napier truly is a unique City - built up from the ashes after a huge 7.9 Earthquake and subsequent fires on the 3rd February 1931. After dinner you may like to walk along Marine Parade and view the floral clock and sunken gardens.
Accommodation: Scenic Te Pania Hotel, Napier

Day 4         Sunday 03 October 2021
NAPIER – HOME CITIES          (B)
This morning we enjoy a drive around the city to view some of the world class Art Deco buildings, Stripped Classical and Spanish Mission - all "modern" styles from the 1920's and 1930's.  Nowhere else, will you see this concentration of these "Modern 1930's" designed buildings. Not until the late 1960s did people begin to rediscover it and take it seriously. Art Deco expressed all the vigour and optimism of the roaring twenties, and the idealism and escapism of the grim thirties.  After an early lunch we then depart Napier and commence our homeward journey.
